Part A: Set up Outlook on iOS 18
Note: As of late September 2025, Outlook for iOS will require iOS 18 or later; support for older iOS versions is ending.
Prerequisites & tips
Ensure your iPhone or iPad is running iOS 18 (or later).
Make sure you have a reliable internet connection (Wi-Fi or cellular).
Know your email address, password, and (if needed) server settings (for non‑Exchange/Office 365 accounts).
If your organization uses security policies (MFA, Intune, app protection policies), you may be prompted to register or trust the device.
Enable Background App Refresh and allow Outlook to refresh in background (important under iOS 18, as new battery / background restrictions may limit sync otherwise).
Step‑by‑step setup
-
Install Outlook
-
Launch Outlook
-
Add your email
-
Automatic setup vs manual / advanced
Outlook often detects your account type (Office 365, Exchange, Outlook.com) and configures settings automatically.
Choose the account type Exchange
-
Enter password & authenticate
Enter your password
If MFA (multi-factor authentication) is required (e.g. through Authenticator, text, or another verification method), complete that step
-
App permissions and device policies
If your organization uses Intune / app protection, you may see a prompt: “Your organization is now protecting its data in this app. You need to restart the app.” Accept and restart as requested.
You may then be asked to create a PIN or use device biometrics (Face ID / Touch ID) as part of security policies.
